Putting Local on Your Plate
Located in Millington, Tennessee, Jones Orchard has been growing fresh fruits for more than seven decades. H.L. “Peaches” Jones started the farm in 1940 and sold peaches door-to-door. The farm still grows some of the classic varieties — Elberta, Redskin, Georgia Belle, and Indian Peaches.
Lee Jones, son of H.L. is the resident peach expert and has been growing peaches on the farm since 1962 and is responsible for starting the farm market on Highway 51.
Lee’s wife, Juanita, developed the line of jams, jellies, relishes, pies and baked goods that are available at the Highway 51 store and at area farmers’ markets.
Henry Jones, Lee and Juanita’s son, returned to the farm in 2005 and is responsible for the farm’s recent growth and diversification, including expanding acreage, adding strawberries and other fruits and vegetables to the farm’s offerings, along with the pick-your-own strawberry farm at the Agricenter. Jones Orchard is a pillar farm at the downtown Memphis Farmers’ Market, Cooper-Young Community Farmers’ Market, and Agricenter Farmers’ Market.
So whether you need a basket of fresh peaches, a jar of chow-chow or jam, or a fresh peach pie, Jones Orchard has you covered.
